Ten days of hands-on learning, experimentation at the Maritime Informatics & Robotics Summer School

Ten days of hands-on learning, experimentation, and collaboration came to life in Syros, at the University of the Aegean EIT Digital Summer School of Maritime Informatics & Robotics. The program, organised by the MUSIT project, included lectures from MUSIT researchers and professionals in the maritime domain, transportation systems, information fusion, and robotics.

During the summer school, students had the chance to assemble and test Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASVs), an exciting hands-on activity that brought theory to life. These small-scale robotic boats are designed to navigate and react to their environment. Field trials (in the sea) allowed the students to test their ASVs in real-life conditions.

It was inspiring to watch interdisciplinary teams bring algorithms, hardware, and strategy together in a real-world testing environment. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible students, partners, and supporters. Together, we’re building something much more than prototypes. We’re shaping a new wave of maritime innovation, grounded in knowledge, community, and curiosity.
The Summer School was held from June 28th to June 25th 2025.

In parallel, a two-day event took place at Syros at June 26th and 27th. The IEEE Symposium of Maritime Informatics & Robotics included presentations of novel works related to robotics systems, mobility analytics, and technology solutions for the maritime domain. Additionally, an AIS forum provided a good opportunity for discussions regarding vessel data acquisition, while the Aegean Ro-Boat Race allowed for teams around the world to showcase their solutions.
